Turtles are one of the most endangered groups of animals in the world, and we are working to help conserve turtle and tortoise species right here in the United States for World Turtle Day… and every other day of the year.

The Gopher Tortoise and Spotted Turtle are focal species for our Appalachian Highlands Initiative, and we are working to develop a program to help Wood Turtles. Habitat loss and defragmentation are the main threats to these species, so we are working to create and implement conservation action plans to save these turtles–and to save their habitats for other wildlife using the same ecosystems.

Fun Turtle Fact:
